The Crested Butte Farmers' Market is a beloved tradition in the Gunnison Valley, offering a wonderful selection of fresh, locally grown produce, handmade crafts, and delicious treats. The market is a hub for the community, bringing together farmers, artisans, and consumers to celebrate the bounty of the North Fork Valley and support local agriculture. In this blog post, we'll explore what you can find at the Crested Butte Farmers' Market and the unique relationship between consumers in the Gunnison Valley and farmers in the North Fork Valley.

Rooted Apothecary was birthed at the Crested Butte Farmers Market back in 2012, and is where Briana met a lot of clients who are still shoppers with her today!

1. Fresh produce: The Crested Butte Farmers' Market offers a wide variety of fresh, locally grown produce, including fruits, vegetables, herbs, and flowers. You can find everything from juicy peaches and crisp apples to heirloom tomatoes and colorful peppers. The produce is picked at the peak of ripeness, ensuring that it is packed with flavor and nutrients.

2. Handmade crafts: In addition to fresh produce, the market also features a wide variety of handmade crafts, including jewelry, pottery, textiles, herbal remedies and more. These unique items are made by local artisans and make great gifts or souvenirs.

3. Delicious treats: No trip to the farmers' market is complete without indulging in some delicious treats. From fresh-baked bread and pastries to locally made cheeses and jams, there is something for everyone at the market. You can even grab a cup of coffee or a refreshing juice to enjoy as you stroll through the market.

4. Relationship between consumers and farmers: The Crested Butte Farmers' Market is more than just a place to buy fresh produce and handmade crafts. It's a place where consumers can connect with the farmers who grow their food and learn about sustainable agriculture. Many of the farmers at the market are from the North Fork Valley, which is known for its fertile soil and ideal growing conditions. By supporting these farmers, consumers in the Gunnison Valley are helping to promote sustainable agriculture and strengthen the local food system.

5. Importance of eating local: Eating local has numerous benefits, including supporting local farmers, reducing carbon emissions from transportation, and promoting sustainable agriculture. By choosing to shop at the Crested Butte Farmers' Market, consumers can enjoy the freshest, healthiest produce while also supporting their local community.

Last month Kat and I went to teach at Midwest Wild Harvest Festival in Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin. My friend Sam Thayer hosts the event, and there's a handful of teachers and about 200 students that get together for 3 days to learn about foraging, feasting, living with the land, and we went to teach about herbs!
