Zingiber Officinale
Ginger
Zingiber officinale
The warming aromatics of ginger make it suitable in any brew or potion where intense heat is needed. This heat can help assist other herbs deeper into the body or can help to open up the peripherals of the body, releasing heat, like from a fever. This means it can be helpful to promote a sweat, and in turn cool the body down--in herbalism we call this a diaphoretic. These properties make ginger useful for nausea, sore muscles, colds and illness, and as a culinary flavor to enhance the spice. Ginger essential oil is Warm, Woody, Bright Warming and pentrating when used in sore muscle rubs.
