Viola Species
Viola Species
Flowers and leaves of violet plants have mucilin, which is the medicinal constituent that makes herbs demulcent. This mucilaginous property makes violet useful for healing the skin, lungs, and digestive and urinary tracts. It has cooling, pain-relieving, and gentle moving qualities that are helpful in improving a stagnant lymphatic system, such as painful breasts or mastitis (infection of milk glands), and sore throats.
